WapakonetaThelma M. Mercer, 88, died at 8:18 p.m. March 2, 2011, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.She was born Oct. 20, 1922, in Hudson, Mich., to Arthur and Evelyn Richard Lewis, who preceded her in death. On June 26, 1941, she married Wayne J. Mercer, who died Oct. 17, 2008.Mrs. Mercer was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. She and her husband owned and operated the Gourmet Meat Shoppe, Wapakoneta. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, knitting and making crafts.Survivors include three children, Wayna (William) Assenheimer, of Wapakoneta, Joel (Janet) Mercer, of Maumee, and Cheryl (Michael) Market, of Wapakoneta; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a step great-great-granddaughter; and four sisters, Virginia (Will) Welch, of Snohomish, Wash., her twin, Velma Davis, of Columbus, Ruth (Jack) Smith, of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Roberta (James) Brock, of Sylvania; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Lynn Lewis; and three sisters, Betty Wagner, Maurine Sterling and Helen Lewis.Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta. Pastor Shawn Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church.Condolences may be expressed at www.bayliffand?eleyfh.com.
