LimaJerry L. Hartzog, 70, died Sept. 14, 2011, at Triumph Hospital, Lima.He was born Aug. 29, 1941, in Fort Wayne, Ind. His mother, Helen Elizabeth Coffman Hartzog Jackson, survives in Lima. On June 27, 1959, in Lima, he married June Gonya, who survives.Mr. Hartzog worked at the Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant, where he was a union representative for 21 years. He had been a Bath Township constable and a volunteer firefighter. He had also worked at Jackson Repair, Jackson's Trenching and Jackson's Poultry Farm and had been a security guard at gun shows. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and the Ford Local Retirees Local 1219. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed teasing and joking with folks and he always had a smile on his face and a wink in his eye.Survivors also include two sons, Kerry Hartzog, of Lima, and Kenneth (Marti) Hartzog, of Yorktown, Va.; a brother, Harry (Martha) Hartzog, of Elida; three grandchildren, Josh Hartzog, Abby Hartzog and Nathan Hartzog; a special nephew, Terry (Rose) Hartzog, of Lima; a brother-in-law, Kenneth (Floella) Gonya, of French Lick, Ind.; a special aunt, Darlene Coffman; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Hartzog; his stepfather, Paul W. Jackson; his father- and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Maxine Gonya; four uncles, Virgil, Robert and James Coffman, and Charles Jackson; and three aunts, June Coffman, Vivian Snook and Reva Jackson. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Ed. Rhinehart and chaplain James Fast will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
