LimaBarbara J. Zuercher Houston, 62, of Mansfield, formerly of Lima, died peacefully Feb. 2, 2011, at her residence, surrounded by her family.She was born Sept. 17, 1948, in Lima to Jerome and Ruth Gerdemann Zuercher. Her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives in Lima.Mrs. Houston was a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School and Weston Beauty School. She was a beautician until she moved to Mansfield with her family in 1983, where she devoted her time to raising her daughters and volunteering with various community groups. In 1987, she became a sales associate and later a manager in the fine jewelry department at J.C. Penney Co., Mansfield, retiring after 21 years. She loved traveling, having fun with family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Her zest for life and her courageous spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be forever remembered by her family.Survivors also include two daughters, Carmen (Dave) George, of Dublin, and Sherry Minnig, of Mansfield; two beloved granddaughters, Sydney and Zoe George; two sisters, Ann (Maurice) Bryan, of Wapakoneta, and Mary (Kevin) Meyer, of Lima; a sister-in-law, Marilee (Robert) Chinnici-Zuercher, of Dublin; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Zuercher.Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Parish, Lexington. The Very Rev. Father Nelson Beaver will officiate.
