OttawaRita Anna Gerker Hellman, 92, died at 4 a.m. Sept. 28, 2011, at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa.She was born April 28, 1919, in New Cleveland to Theodore and Louisa Kaufman Ellerbrock, who preceded her in death. On June 24, 1942, she married Leo Gerker, who died May 7, 1972. On April 27, 1984, she married Joseph Hellman, who died in September 2001.Mrs. Hellman retired from Putnam Acres Care Center and had worked at Sylvania Electric, both in Ottawa. She was a member of Leipsic Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She had been a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Kalida, and SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. She attended St. Michael Catholic Church, Findlay. She loved sewing and creating beautiful items. Cooking was one of her specialties.Survivors include two children, Karen Hartl and Terry Gerker, both of Findlay; three stepchildren, Chuck (Ginnie) Hellman, Ralph (Cathy) Hellman and Rick (Cheryl) Hellman; a stepson-in-law, Doug Hoehn; a stepdaughter-in-law, Sandy Hellman; three grandchildren, Lenore (Kevin) Swanson, Ryan Gerker and Rachel Peterson; a great-grandchild, Noah Patrick Swanson; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin and Louis Ellerbrock and an infant; four sisters, Lucinda Goettemoeller, Edna Barlage, Emma Kruse and an infant; a stepdaughter, Alice Hoehn; and a stepson, Ken Hellman.Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. Father Alfons Minja will officiate.
