OttovilleMadonna E. Amato, 97, formerly of Shelby, died at 12:03 p.m. Feb. 26, 2011, at Van Crest Health Care Center of Delphos.She was born Feb. 6, 1914, in Junction to Thomas and Emma Clark Bullinger Jr., who preceded her in death. In October 1937, she married Lloyd Amato, who died in 1979.Mrs. Amato was owner operator of Madonna's Beauty Shop in Mansfield. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville and a former member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Shelby, where she was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a 1931 graduate of Defiance High School and attended beauty school in Mansfield. In 1939, she received her pilot's license along with her husband. She enjoyed flying and traveling to many parts of the country. She also loved flowers and gardening in her yard.Survivors include a brother, Rollin (Mary Lou) Bullinger, of Oakwood; her caregiver and niece Jenny (Carl) Turnwald, of Ottoville; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.She was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Richard, Russell and Robert Bullinger; and four sisters, Margaret Finn, Melvina Meyer, Mary DiSanze and Elizabeth Ricker.A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ottoville. The Rev. John Stites will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery in Shelby.Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Jackson Township (at the corner of state Routes 224 and 634) where there will be a Scripture service at 2 p.m.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Fund, Masses, or to a charity of the donor's choice.Condolences may be expressed at www.lovefuneralhome.com.
