Letter: Garlock a friend to Lima neighborhoods

Lima Police Chief Greg Garlock has retired after many years of dedicated service. Lima-Allen County Neighborhoods in Partnership wants to thank him for his leadership and commitment to our community. It was part of Garlock's vision to bring community-oriented policing to Lima. Police officers were located in the city wards. They would get to know the people who lived in the neighborhoods and build relationships with the residents. These positive interactions led to better communications, understanding and improved attitudes. Garlock was a good friend to LACNIP. He assigned an officer to attend our monthly board meetings, which helped keep us informed. He graciously supported our various community events and actively participated in our National Night Out, which promotes safer neighborhoods. He or a member of his staff would make presentations at numerous neighborhood association meetings. He and his staff would help create neighborhood watch programs and block patrols. He worked very hard to make the Lima community a better and safer place to live, work and play. We wish him the very best and look forward to a positive partnership with the Police Department he helped create.Roy N. Baldridge is president of LACNIP.
