LakeviewGeorge W. Thomas, 90, died Sept. 27, 2011, at Heartland of Indian Lake, Lakeview.He was born July 1, 1921, in Lakeview to Anderson T. and Nancy J. Hicks Thomas, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 27, 1947, in Maysville, Ky., he married Betty M. Seibert, who survives.Mr. Thomas was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a sonarman. During the Great Depression, he was commissioned for two terms with the Civil Conservation Corps. He retired as a machinist from Clark Equipment, Lima, where he worked for 30 years. He was a life member of AMVETS Post 39, Lakeview.Survivors also include three daughters, Deborah (Jim) Post, of Sevierville, Tenn., Sandra Jones, of Haw River, N.C., and Jill (Richard) Vermillion, of Belle Center; a son, Michael (Pam) Thomas, of DeGraff; nine grandchildren, Angie, Brian, Katie, Megan, Lauryn, Drew, Meredith, Beth and Devlin; three great-grandchildren, David, Jack and Ian; a sister, Minnie Burton; three brothers, Norman Thomas, Brad Thomas and Gilbert Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio.Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice Care, 1081 Fairington Drive, Sidney, OH 45365.Condolences may be expressed at are by Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview.
