George W. Patton

George W. Patton, 87, died at 4:35 a.m. Feb. 24, 2013, at Primrose Retirement Community, Lima.

He was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Delphos to Harry and Zellma Lutz Patton, who preceded him in death. In 1942, he married Bernice Latham, who died Dec. 8, 1996. In 1998, he married Dottie McKamey Shetler, who died Dec. 15, 2008.

Mr. Patton had been a welder at Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant and at Lima Locomotive. He was a member of Southside Christian Church of Christ, Delphos. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Lima; the Free & Accepted Masons; the Airstream Club; and an archery club. He was a graduate of Delphos Jefferson High School.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Sharon Bailey Hanes and Jackie Caprella, both of Lima; two sisters, Mary Ann Dunlap, of Delphos, and Maxine Custer, of Lima; several nieces and nephews; five stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and extended families, the Robinsons and the Hunts.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Eris Jones; a brother, Lloyd Patton; and his pet goat.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home. The Rev. Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday.
