XENIA
Robert F. Ackerman, 85, passed away Nov. 2, 2012, at Greene Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 21, 1926, in Xenia.
He was preceded by his mother, Donna R. Fudge; father and stepmother, George Dewey and Lorene Cooper Ackerman; his aunt and uncle, with whom he made his home while growing up, Jess and Verna Wollett; a sister, Ann J. Bretthauer; and a half-sister, Barbara Parks.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Holten) Ackerman, whom he married Jan. 1, 1949; a son, Ron (Melanie) Ackerman, of Goldsboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Jessica Holtzman, Joseph Ackerman, Laura Groeschen, Allison Horrell, Lindsay Ackerman, Dominick Ackerman and Robert Ackerman; a stepgrandson, Charles Swain; 18 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Bob was a graduate of LaFayette High School and attended Wilmington College. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Navy. He retired from Independent Equipment Sales and had previously worked at Carroll Wertz Tire and Goodyear Tire Co. He was a member of the American Legion, Xenia. Bob had been an auxiliary Ohio State Highway Patrol officer for 52 years. He and his wife were also volunteers at Greene Memorial Hospital. Bob enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was riding as recently as two weeks ago.
Funeral services will be held at the 11 a.m. Tuesday at McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Interment to follow in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
