The field on the left did not receive a pre-emerge herbicide, while the one on the right received a pre-emerge application containing a PPO inhibitor. While there is injury to the soybeans, the reduced population of Palmer amaranth means the field will be much more manageable than the untreated stand. (Purdue Botany and Plant Pathology photo)Injury symptoms include stunted growth, crinkled leaves, necrosis of the hypocotyl (lower stem) and cotyledons (first leaves), and necrotic spotting on leaves.
