Simon, Watt highlight I-II-III All-Star game

ELIDA — Liberty-Benton’s Katie Simon tossed in 23 points, with seven 3-pointers, to power the East to a 67-65 victory over the West in the girls Division I-II-II District 8 All-Star game Monday at the Elida Fieldhouse.

Wapakoneta’s Megan Watt paced the West team with 15 points. Wapakoneta’s Carly Buzzard had 10 points.

For the East, Shawnee’s Rachel Evans had 13 points, while Allen East’s Carly Clum scored 13. Elida’s Abby Waddle scored 11 points.

In the Division IV game, the West rolled over the East, 70-36.

The West was led by Crestview’s Mackenzie Riggenbaugh with 11 points. The East was led by Molly Glick (Arcadia) and Hannah Johnson (Arlington), both with 10 points.

The boys All-Star games are tonight at the Elida Fieldhouse.

Softball

Bath 15, West Liberty-Salem

Defending state champion Bath opened the year by pounding West Liberty-Salem.

Julia Miller picked up the win. At the plate, the University of Toledo-bound Miller went 4 for 4, with two doubles, and nine RBIs.

Alyssa Manley went 4 for 4.

Parkway 20, Spencerville 10

Parkway scored 16 runs in the third inning en route to a win over Spencerville.

During the key third inning, Selena Burtch had a two-run double, while freshman Haley Hawk had a grand slam.

Hawk had six RBIs on the day.

Houston 12, Jackson Center 5

Houston knocked off Jackson Center.

For Jackson Center, Meredith Himmeger had two doubles.

Baseball

Parkway 3, Marion Local 0

Parkway’s Wyatt Felver fired a one-hit shutout over Marion Local.

Felver struck out seven and walked three. Tanner Bates went 2 for 3 for Parkway.

Continental 9, Wayne Trace 2

Continental’s Terry Dockery III used his arm and bat to knock off Wayne Trace.

On the mound, Dockery gave up two runs and two hits over five innings. He struck out 10. At the plate, he was 2 for 3 with a double, three stolen bases and four RBIs.

Miller City 4, Patrick Henry 1

Miller City’s Ross Lehman gave up one run and two hits over five innings in a victory over Patrick Henry.

Jackson Lammers came on to fire the final two innings and notched the save. He struck out six and gave up one hit.

For Miller City, Adam Niese had two hits with a double. Jacob Schimmoeller had a double and two RBIs.

Coldwater 10, Franklin Monroe 2

Coldwater’s Brandon Kunk tossed four shutout innings in the Cavaliers’ victory.

Kunk struck out five and walked one.

Brody Hoying went 3 for 3 with two doubles for the Cavs. Malave Bettinger had two hits and two RBIs. Aaron Harlamert had two hits, two runs and three RBIs.

Boys tennis

Bluffton 4, Bath 1

Bluffton’s singles players all won in a victory over Bath.

Bluffton (1-0) picked up singles wins from freshman Justin Haggard and sophomores Ryan Sprague and Trevor Bunch.

Bath’s win came at No. 2 doubles.

Ottawa-Glandorf 5, Lima Senior 0

Ottawa-Glandorf swept Lima Senior.

In singles, the Titans’ Jordan Verhoff, Evan Barrett and Jeff Kaufman notched wins.
