MLK forum features former Peacemaker

Bluffton University’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day forum will feature Sister Paulette Scrhoeder of St. Fracis, a leader of Project Peace in Tiffin.

Schroeder is a former member of Christian Peacemaker Teams in Palestine and a former teacher and social worker.

The presentation, free and open to the public, will begin at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall.

Men’s ensemble group next in artist series

The next act featured in Bluffton’s artist series will be Cantus.

Cantus is a men’s vocal ensemble, which has released multiple albums and received many awards, including the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence.

Tickets are available online at http://tickets.bluffton.edu or in person at the Marbeck Center. The concert is scheduled for Jan. 19 at 7:30 pm. in Yoder Recital Hall.

Scholarship for Ohio law students announced

The Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys is offering three $1,250 diversity scholarships.

Financial aid is awarded to second- and third-year law students of African-American, Hispanic, Asian, pan Asian and native American descent enrolled in an Ohio law school. Students must demonstrate academic ability, interest in civil defense practice and community service.

Applications are available at http://oacta.org and are due April 17. Recipients will be announced in June.

Bradley University student makes the grade

Zachary Jankovsky, of Lima was listed on Bradley University’s Dean’s List. To be eligible students must achieve at least a 3.5 GPA.

Locals make Akron dean’s list

Ohio State-Lima Open House

Open for the public, OSU’s first open house of the year will feature representatives from the Student Services Center answering questions about admissions, financial aid or other concerns.

With a beach theme, prospective students may have a chance to warm up during a campus tour and student panel.

The event, at the Student Services Center, takes place from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday.

Student earns spot on provost list

Kolleen Duffy, of Lima, was listed on Troy University’s 2014 fall semester Provost List.

Findlay hosts musical guest

The University of Findlay has a new name to include on its list of Donnell Broadway Musical Theater guest artists this month.

The event, featuring musician Cheyenne Jackson, will be on Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Winebrenner Theological Seminary’s TLB auditorium.

Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. UF students, faculty and staff are able to attend at no charge. Those interested can acquire tickets by calling 419-434-5335 or emailing [email protected].

Former athelete receives achievement award

Terry Wymer was the ultimate Oiler.

As a member of the 1979 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, he was on the University of Findlay’s national championship football team in 1979 and earned three letters as first baseman for its baseball team. He broke records on both teams.

He continued his membership as a recognized basketball official for the NCAA for the last 21 years. During his career, Wymer has officiated Big Ten, MAC and Summit League Championship Games, among others.

For his continued success on and off campus, Findlay will induct Wymer into its Hall of Fame with a Lifetime Achievement Award during its annual brunch Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. in Winebrenner Theological Seminary’s TLB auditorium.

Those interested in attending must have registered by Jan. 12 by calling the Wolfe Center for Alumni, Parents and Friends at 419-434-4589. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for children over the age of 5. Younger children can attend for free.

Apply for a dairy scholarship or princess title

The Hardin County Dairy Service Unit is accepting applications for both its scholarship and dairy princess.

Students eligible for the dairy scholarship must live, have grown up or work on a dairy farm. Students can also be eligible if they are pursuing a dairy related education or have shown a dairy heifer or cow project at the Hardin County Fair.

To be the 2014 Dairy Princess, applicants must be unmarried between the ages of 15 and 19, or be a freshman in high school as of Jan. 1. They must live on a dairy farm, have a dairy project and show at the fair, or work on a diary farm.

Applications for both opportunities are available at the Extension Office at 1021 W. Lima St., Suite 103, or online from http://hardin.osu.edu. Advisers or high school guidance counselors may also have available applications. Scholarships applications are due Feb. 11 and princess applications are due Feb. 6.

Student graduates from Iowa State University

Logan Welker, from Van Wert, graduated from Iowa State University after completing the 2014 fall semester with a master’s degree in science, agronomy.
