LIMA — For the 12th year, The Lima News and Bluffton University will be honoring area high school students who excel in volunteering, academics and extracurricular activites through the “Leaders of Tomorrow” program.

“The Leaders of Tomorrow is a recognition program for our youth in Grades 11 and 12,” The Lima News marketing director Bill Clinger said. “Last year, we had 91 students representing 24 different schools. We select 10 finalists, each of whom receives a $100 cash award, with the winner receiving $1,000.”

This award is open to students in any school district in The Lima News’ reading area. All nominees will be recognized in a special insert of The Lima News. There will also be a reception for all finalists March 2 at Bluffton University.

For Bluffton University public relations director Robin Bowlus, the Leaders of Tomorrow program ties in with the university’s mission very well.

“Being service-learning oriented is something that Bluffton University is built around, so it’s very important for us to celebrate high school youth who are volunteering in their communities,” she said.

Applications are available through school guidance counselors, at http://LimaOhio.com or http://bluffton.edu. The deadline to apply is Jan. 30.
