COLUMBUS (AP) — An independent movie starring John Travolta is going to be shot in central Ohio.
The action-thriller titled “I Am Wrath” will begin filming in Columbus in March.
The movie will have about a $10 million budget, making it one of the bigger projects to come to the city in recent years, John Daugherty of the Greater Columbus Film Commission told The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1DCl5o8).
Travolta is portraying a man out for justice after a group of corrupt policemen are unable to catch his wife’s killer.
Daugherty said he got a call in January after producers visited the Columbus area. They picked it over locations in Mississippi. Ohio’s motion picture tax incentive— which offers up to a 35 percent tax credit — was a factor in luring them, he said.
The film industry is the city’s new frontier, said Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, adding that he sees the film as a building block.
“This has a major Hollywood actor with lots of history,” Coleman said. “And if we combine this film with other efforts and keep trying to go down this road, it can help be a catalyst for additional film and television opportunities.”
Some of the filming sites include the Statehouse, the Ohio State University campus and the German Village area. Filming is expected to last several weeks.
