HAMILTON — The Lima Locos inched closer to the No. 1 playoff seed and regular-season title.
The Locos knocked off the Hamilton Joes 6-2 Tuesday at Hamilton in the Great Lakes Collegiate League.
The Locos lowered their magic number to two to clinch the No. 1 seed in the GLCL playoffs and the regular-season title.
With Grand Lake knocking off second-place Southern Ohio 7-0, Southern Ohio (19-15) dropped four games behind the first-place Locos.
The Locos are 24-12 with four regular-season games to play. Hamilton is 17-19.
Since the Locos started the year 10-10, they have compiled a 14-2 record.
The Locos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Matt Furuto and Kyle Lewis singled. Both came home on a two-run double by Daniel Garner to make it 2-0.
The Locos expanded their lead to 4-0 in the second on a two-run single by D.J. Smith.
Right-hander Luke Crumley (Georgia) started for the Locos. Crumley (4-1) worked five innings and gave up two runs on two hits. He struck out five and walked two.
Alex Thackston (Marshall) came on and pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
James Naile (Alabama-Birmingham) posted the save with two shutout, no-hit innings to close it out. He struck out three.
Hamilton scored two in the fifth to close the margin to 4-2.
The Locos came back in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Jalen Washington. That gave the Locos a 5-2 lead.
The Locos added a run in the top of the ninth to pull out to a 6-2 lead.
The Locos will meet Hamilton at 7 p.m. tonight at Simmons Field.
