Unemployment rates drop throughout Lima region

LIMA — Unemployment rates dropped throughout the region in March by an average of 0.6 percentage points, according to figures released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

The rate in Allen County and Putnam County dropped the greatest amount, by 0.7 percentage points each.

Allen County’s rate in March was 6.3 percent, down from 7 percent. In March 2013, that rate sat at 8.2 percent.

Putnam County’s March rate was 5.6 percent, down from 6.3 percent in February and down from 6.7 percent last year.

In Auglaize County, the rate dipped from 4.7 percent in February to 4.2 percent in March.

All of the counties in the region saw a decrease from February to March and from a year ago to March of this year.

The lowest rate in the state remains in Mercer County, which dropped from 4.3 percent two months ago to 3.7 percent last month. Eight counties, including Auglaize, Logan and Mercer counties, had rates at or below 5 percent. Six counties, none in the region, had unemployment rates above 10 percent in March.

The statewide average in March dropped to 6.2 percent, down from 7 percent in March. The average of the region’s nine counties was 5.1 percent in March after being at 5.7 percent in February.
