Car crash leads to natural gas leak in Lima

LIMA — A portion of Shawnee Road between Cable Road and state Route 117 had to be closed off Friday evening after a vehicle lost control and hit a natural gas line.

At 7:15 p.m. Friday, the Shawnee Fire Department was notified of the accident involving a Ford Mustang, which ran off the west side of the road, impacting a gas line in front of Cora Health Services, located at 1110 Shawnee Rd.

No injuries were sustained by the occupants, whose identities were not released. Traffic was rerouted away from the scene by REACT while firefighters were on the scene.

As of 8:45 p.m. the gas flow was turned off, and no further damage was reported. The extent of the damage to the vehicle has not yet been released.
