ADA — Ohio Northern freshman Devon Allen (Lima Senior) tossed in 21 points to lead the Polar Bears to a 97-80 victory over John Carroll in a men’s college basketball game Sunday at the King Horn Center.
ONU stands 9-8, 5-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. John Carroll is 11-6, 5-5 in the OAC.
Allen scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half. Allen hit 7 of 8 from the field and was 3 of 4 on 3-pointers. He also hit 4 of 4 at the line.
ONU’s Isaiah Roux had 16 points, six rebounds and five assists. Lucas Pennington had 13 points and seven rebounds. Branden Rushton had 12 points and six rebounds. Dominque Royal had six points and two blocks. Jared Horstman had seven points and five rebounds.
ONU shot 50 percent in the first half to pull out to a 46-28 halftime lead.
“We always talk about getting better every day and today was very encouraging,” ONU coach Kevin Byrne said. “It helps having two guys in Devon Allen and Isaiah Roux playing the best they have all season.”
The Polar Bears never trailed in the game.
ONU shot 52 percent from the field and 8 of 18 on 3-pointers. John Carroll shot 42 percent from the field and 7 of 26 on 3-pointers.
ONU won the boards, 40-33.
Joey Vuyancih led John Carroll with 18 points.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Ohio Northern got a little revenge for a 15-point loss to John Carroll earlier in the year by posting a victory at No. 17 John Carroll.
ONU was led by Jordan Kimes, who had 18 points and 10 rebounds. It was her fifth double-double of the season. Kimes also had four blocks.
ONU’s Sara Kocian had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. She hit 3 of 3 on 3-pointers.
Cenzie Yoder (Celina) added 10 points and six rebounds. Carly Thomas has eight points. Taylor Hermiller had seven points and four rebounds. Brooke Espenschied had six points and four assists.
Hermiller gave ONU the lead to stay with a 3-point play to give the Polar Bears a 62-59 lead with 3:46 to play.
ONU stands 13-4, 6-4 in the OAC. John Carroll is 13-2, 8-2 in the OAC.
John Carroll defeated ONU 73-58 on Dec. 7 at ONU.
Melissa Spahar led John Carroll with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
John Carroll led 28-21 at the half.
