ALAN T. "AL" BENNETT, 76, died at 8:29 p.m. Oct. 21, 2006, at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born May 21, 1930, in Kilsyth, W.Va., to Garnet Chester and Hattie Mae Vickers Bennett, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 22, 1981, he married Alice A. Longworth, who survives in Lima.

Mr. Bennett was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lima. He was the owner of Bennett Tax Service. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service on May 31, 1985, after 30 years of service. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He was past commander of American Legion Post 96. He was a member of Fort Amanda Lodge 706 Free & Accepted Masons, 32nd Degree Master Mason Antioch Temple in Dayton, the Lima Shrine Club, Moose Lodge 199, FOPA Lodge 8, Fraternal Order of Eagles, a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and the Orioles Nest.

Survivors include three daughters, Lou Ann Flick and Alison T. Lowden, both of Perrysburg, and Stacy L. Bennett, of Uniopolis; a stepdaughter, Melissa A. (Walter) Koepp, of Evans Mills, N.Y.; a brother, Scotty (Molly) Bennett, of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Viola Weaver and Joy Roberts, both of Rogers, Ark.; five grandchildren, Brian (Lauren) Flick, Gregory Lowden, Eric Lowden, Kelsey Lowden and Matthew Bennett; and a great-granddaughter, Hunter Flick.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Janet M. Traucht Wheeler; four brothers, Garnet Jr., Guy, Gary and Max Bennett; and a stepgrandson, R. Clayton Wheeler.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Pastor Kent Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Janet Traucht Wheeler Scholarship at Bath High School or to a charity of the donor's choice.
