Jackie A. “Jack” Mason

Jackie A. "Jack" Mason, 71, died at 9:10 p.m. Oct. 23, 2007, at his residence, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born Sept. 3, 1936, in Logan to Clarence and O. Ruth Carpenter Mason, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 9, 1954, he married Beverly I. Nebergall, who survives.

Mr. Mason retired in 1999 as a machinist from Dana Corp. after 27 years of service. He was a member of Gardendale Church of God, where he served on the board of trustees, was a Sunday school teacher and an usher for many years. He attended church softball games and coached at times for the church's team. He participated in Boy Scouts of America Troop 50. He enjoyed a recent Father's Day fishing trip with his family. He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a big Buckeyes football fan.

Survivors also include three sons, Orlen Lynn (Cindy) Mason, of Fairfield, Jackie A. (Del) Mason II, of Anderson, S.C., and Eric L. Mason, of Lima; two daughters, Elizabeth S. (John) Ball, of Lima, and Marsha L. (Richard) Van Schoyck, of Lebanon; a brother, Larry T. (Carol) Mason, of Decatur, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Jerry L. (Elizabeth) Nebergall, of Statesville, N.C.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ada Bigham.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. The Rev. Terry Davy and the Rev. Gerbert Darlington will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
