RICHARD J. HECKMAN, 75, died at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 1, 2006, at his residence.

He was born April 4, 1931, to Joseph and Teresa Hortsman Heckman, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 13, 1954, he married Jeanette Maag, who survives in Glandorf.

Mr. Heckman was retired from Philips Display Components, Ottawa. He was member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was a Korean War Army Veteran and a member of the Ottawa American Legion and life member of the Ottawa Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the former president of the Glandorf Parent Teacher Association and a former church councilman. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors also include three sons, Steve (Karen) Heckman and Mark Heckman, both of Ottawa, and Kevin (Beverly) Heckman of Glandorf; two daughters, Deborah Vorst of Cincinnati and Sandy (Joseph) Fortman of Glandorf; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Kenneth (Chris) Heckman and Thomas (Linda) Heckman, both of Ottawa; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Kaufman of Glandorf.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Kaufman; and a sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie and Charles Borer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf. Father Harold Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A VFW service will begin at 7 p.m. and a parish rosary service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
