Levia E. Hess, 89, of Huntsville, Ala., formerly of Lima, died peacefully on Nov. 8, 2007, in Huntsville.
She was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Lima to Metro and Anna George, who preceded her in death. In 1942, she married Collins Hess, who died in 1969.
Mrs. Hess was a homemaker and the proud mother of nine. Her husband was her true love. Together they had an unforgettable journey. After her husband's death, she was left to her own devices. She raised and cared for her children with lots of love, laughter and delectable cooking. Etched in the memories of many will be the smell of her notorious spaghetti and meatballs, her smile, the way she danced and the warmth of her presence. She will be remembered by all for her passion, beauty, strength and grace.
Survivors include eight children, Linda Hess Coplen, of Lima, Cynthia Hess Tourville, of Rochester, Mich., and Janice Hess Childress, Nicholas Hess, Douglas Hess, Gregory Hess, Collins Hess and Shaun Hess, all of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters-in-law, Gloria Hess and Bronagh Gallagher; four sons-in-law, Charles Elms, John Coplen, Robert Tourville and Grant Childress; and 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Hess Elms; a brother, Nicholas George; and a sister, Sophia George Griffo.
Graveside services were held Tuesday in Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, Ala.
