JAMES HUGHES "GARBAGE JIM" SWEARINGEN, 78, died at 9:49 a.m. Feb. 5, 2007, at his daughter's residence.

He was born July 1, 1928, in Taylorsville, Ky., to Kenneth and Henrietta Jones Swearingen, who preceded him in death. His lifelong companion, Carrie Louise Luckett-Swearingen, died Nov. 9, 1993.

Mr. Swearingen was a refuse collector for Terminal Service. He attended Friendship Baptist Church. He loved a good cigar and enjoyed working on cars.

Survivors include two sons, Frank (Diane) Luckett, of Cincinnati, and Michael (Cathy) Luckett, of Anchorage, Alaska; four daughters, Maurita (Derrick) Williams, of Lima, and Delores (Kenneth) Watterson, Alberta (Calvin) Foster and Marilyn Luckett, all of Cincinnati; 20 grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Lavita Luckett; 36 great-grandchildren; and five special cousins, Charles Winburn, of Cincinnati, Samuel Lester Winburn and Vernon Ray Winburn, both of Louisville, Ky., Mary Frances Winburn, of Atlanta, and Nettie Matthews, of Cincinnati.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel. The Rev. F.C. Dunlap will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
