Fort Jennings

LUCILLE M. BOWDEN, 80, died peacefully at 8:25 p.m. June 12, 2007, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 3, 1927, in Fort Jennings to Victor and Emma Rode Calvelage, who preceded her in death. On April 12, 1947, she married Harold H. Maas, who died Feb. 7, 1965. On March 14, 1973, she married William R. Bowden., who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bowden was a homemaker and had been an Avon representative for more than 10 years. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, and its Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council No. 40. She was a member of the YWCA, Van Wert, and the Westgate Senior Bowling League, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 Auxiliary, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and the Lima Senior Citizens, all in Lima. She loved to crocheting, gardening, flowers and playing cards with her friends. She especially loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors also include three sons, Mark Maas and Timothy (Kris) Maas, both of Fort Jennings, and Robert (Sally) Maas, of St. Marys; four daughters, Diane Hile, of Napoleon, Katherine (David) Powers, of Lewisburg, Pa., and Agnes Maas and Barbara (Jay McMinn) Truesdale, both of Delphos; two sisters, Viola Pohlman, of Fort Jennings, and Helen Holdgreve, of Delphos; a brother, Robert Calvelage, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Maas Green Seibert; a grandson, Darrel M. Green Seibert; three brothers, Wilfred, Leonard and Thomas Calvelage; a sister, Agnes Calvelage; and a son-in-law, Floyd Hile.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. today at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Mel Verhoff will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or St. Rita's Hospice.
