James C. "Jim" Schnippel, 77, died at 1:05 p.m. Aug. 15, 2007, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Sidney to Albert and Marie Kelly Schnippel, who preceded him in death. On June 11, 1955, he married Madella Severt, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Schnippel founded Schnippel Electric Co., Wapakoneta. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1272, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8445, AMVETS Post 333, American Legion Post 330, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 691 and Brands Lake Fishing Club, all in Wapakoneta. He was an Army veteran serving from 1951 to 1953. He enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping and tractor pulls.
Survivors also include six children, Deb (Dave) Heitz, Jerry (Janet Schipper) Schnippel, Sue (Denny) Shroyer, Brian Schnippel and Tony (Melanie Dubois) Schnippel, all of Wapakoneta, and Janet (Jim) Heitkamp, of New Bremen; 16 grandchildren, Darian Heitz, Denise Heitz, Diane (Chris) Harrod, Jeff Schnippel, Juli Schnippel, Joann Schnippel, Jason Schnippel, Kaylee Schnippel, Amber Schnippel, Adam Shroyer, Ashley Shroyer, Abby Shroyer, Jamie Heitkamp, Jodi Heitkamp, Justin Heitkamp and Jenna Heitkamp; two great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Emily Harrod; and four siblings, Mary Steinke, of Sidney, Catherine (Russ) Helmlinger, of Jackson Center, and John Schnippel and Joe (Evonne) Schnippel, both of Botkins.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Vernon Steinke; and a sister-in-law, Katie Schnippel.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. The Rev. Henry Albietz will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 8445.
