Robert W. Harmeyer

Robert W. Harmeyer, 81, died at 11:40 a.m. Dec. 16, 2007, at the Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys.

He was born Jan. 26, 1926, in New Knoxville to William B. and Meta Hartung Harmeyer, who preceded him in death. On June 18, 1950, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in New Bremen, he married Donna M. Topp, who survives.

Mr. Harmeyer was a 1944 graduate of New Knoxville High School and the Northwestern School of Commerce. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during World War II. He was self-employed as a public accountant for 40 years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, St. Marys, where he had served as a deacon and assistant superintendent of its Sunday school. He also held memberships and was past president of St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce, Accountancy Association of Ohio and Lima Chapter of the Public Accountants Association of Ohio. He enjoyed all types of sports.

Survivors also include three sons, Robert Harmeyer Jr., of Daytona Beach, Fla., Doug (Cindy) Harmeyer, of Chillicothe, and Don (Patricia) Harmeyer, of Underhill, Vt.; a daughter, Kathy Harmeyer, of Fairfield; four grandchildren, Dustin, Maggie, William and Henry Harmeyer; and a sister, Evelyn (Dale) Grimes, of New Knoxville.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, High Street Chapel, in St. Marys. Burial, with graveside military rites, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home on High Street.
