ALBERT F. SMITH Jr., 86, died at 12:20 a.m. Jan. 28, 2007, at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.
He was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Universal, Pa., to Albert F. and Olive Hazel Berg Smith, who preceded him in death. On May 11, 1947, he married Betty Jane Twigg, who survives in Harrod.
Mr. Smith retired in 1980 as superintendent of quality control from Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant after 23 years. He was a member of Harrod Christian Church, Harrod. He had been a Boy Scout leader and had served on the Harrod Village Council. He was a 1938 graduate of Fredericktown High School and in 1971 he received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Ohio Northern University, Ada, where he graduated with high honors.
Survivors also include three sons, Albert F. (Darlene) Smith III, of Elida, David O. (Marsha) Smith, of Lima, and Philip E. (Sherrill) Smith, of LaGrange, Ky.; two daughters, Ellen Patricia Howard, of Chesapeake, Va., and Vivien Carol (David) Shaffer, of Harrod; two brothers, Ralph Wilson (Georgena) Smith, of Starr, S.C., and Philip (Ruth) Smith, of Belpre; a sister, Jacobine (Charles) Engle, of Gambier; 12 grandchildren, Albert Smith IV, Emily Smith, Kristina Howard, Aaron Howard, Jennifer Shaffer Newland, Matthew Shaffer, Douglas Shaffer, Sally Smith, Suzanne Smith Troyer, Robyn Smith, Nicolas Smith and Amy Smith; two stepgrandchildren, James Burr and Jeremiah Burr; and seven great-grandchildren, Victoria, Jakob, Sebastian, Kyle, Lilly, Zane and Mason.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. The Rev. James Harrod will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Westminster.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
