GERALD S. "JERRY" HINES, 77, died at 5:55 p.m. Nov. 2, 2004, at Lima Convalescent Home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Elwood City, Pa., to Walter and Lula Bollinger Hines, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 21, 1950, he married Jean G. Eggener, who survives.
Mr. Hines retired in 1981, from J.C. Penny Co. Inc., after 38 years in shoe retail. He had also owned Brandon's Shoe Store, Ottawa, for several years. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. He was a 1949 graduate of Ohio University School of Journalism, Athens. He enjoyed writing nostalgic guest columns for his hometown newspaper, the Barnesville Enterprise. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the ultimate Ohio State fan.
Survivors also include a daughter, Krista (Doug) Swinehart of Lima; a son, Brandon (Deb Morris) Hines of Sarasota, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Andie, Amanda, Libby, Mallory, Luke, Aaron and Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emma; a sister, Carolyn "Toots" (William) Self of Mount Airy, Md.; and a brother, John (Mary Joy) Michael of Houston.
Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Lutheran Church. The Rev. Art Wilde will officiate. The body has been donated to Ohio University's Department of Osteopathic Medicine. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Dayton National Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers and blankets, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, St. Luke Lutheran Church Building Fund or Lima Convalescent Home.
