ERLEYNE SHAW, 88, died Feb. 16, 2007, at her daughter's residence in Ottoville.

She was born July 10, 1918, in Delphos to Adam and Viola Carder Backus, who preceded her in death. On June 1, 1940, she married Kenneth Shaw, who died Feb. 19, 2006.

Mrs. Shaw was a Sunday school teacher. She worked many years as a type setter at the Delphos Herald. She also sewed pillows and curtains at Iron Wood Design. She was a member of and a volunteer for Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a 50-year member of the Delphos Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed volunteering for the Delphos Thrift Shop and sewing for the missions.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Joe) Horstman, of Ottoville, and Pam (Mike) Van Schoyck, of Florida; three sisters-in-law, Mary Backus, Rosie Shaw and Doris Schroeder; six grandchildren, Steve Horstman, of Delphos, Richard (Donna) Horstman, of Fort Jennings, Bradley (Jennifer) Horstman, of Kalida, Kyle (Sarah) Van Schoyck, of Tampa, Fla., Kelly (Jamie) Clymer, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Christina (Dean) Schwinnen, of Delphos; nine great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Dan Fisher.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Clarence, Harry, Clayton and Albert Backus; and two sisters, Helen Williams and Donna Wolery.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. The Rev. David Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and beginning one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
