ESTHER M. LOWRY, 86, died at midnight Feb. 11, 2005, following a short illness at Roselawn Manor Nursing home, Spencerville.
She was born July 3, 1918, in Spencerville to John and Myrtle Steiger Beerman, who preceded her in death. In 1940, she married Melvin Lowry, who died on May 16, 1979.
Mrs. Lowry attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elida and was affiliated with the Spencerville United Church of Christ. She retired as a medical secretary with Lima Memorial Health System. She also worked in Dr. Dwight L. Becker's Lima office. She was a 1935 Spencerville High School graduate and also graduated from the Northwestern School of Commerce in 1937. She was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 Auxiliary, Lima, and was an avid card player.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Sue (Dr. Ron) Bell of Lima; three stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Robert N. Miller of Spencerville; two sisters-in-law, Polly Beerman of Elida and Mabel Beerman of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Milton Lowry, who died in 1956; two sisters, Ruth Reynolds and Helen Miller; and two brothers, Harold and William Beerman.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Roselawn Manor Activities Fund or the Lima Elks Auxiliary.
