Richard H. Vitalis, 73, died at 9:10 a.m. Feb. 17, 2008, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born May 9, 1934, in Redwood Falls, Minn., to Earl L. and Katherine Helgen Vitalis, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 16, 1956, he married Virginia Kay Bolliger, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Vitalis retired in 1986 as a test equipment engineer from Westinghouse Electric Corp. He had also worked at A.O. Smith, Tipp City, and Electro Dynamics, New Carlisle. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a member of Amil Tellers in the 1950s and 1960s. He received his bachelor's degree in physics in 1956 from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn.
Survivors also include a son, Paul David Vitalis, of Big Lake, Minn.; a daughter, Kristine Conley, of Fostoria; three grandsons, Michael (Rochelle) Conrad, of Harrod, Scott (Tristan) Conrad, of Perrysburg, and Jason (Lindsay) Conrad, of Bluffton; seven great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, John Morykon, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and a sister, Kathryn Morrison, of Palm Springs, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi Kathryn Morykon; and a brother, Earl Vitalis Jr.
Private family services will be held at a later date. The body will be cremated.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
