PAT PERSINGER, 61, died at 8:24 a.m. Sept. 1, 2005, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born Feb. 26, 1944, in Augusta, Ga., to Dr. Robert E. and Margaret G. Gilliat Raymond. Her father survives. Her mother preceded her in death.

Mrs. Persinger retired as a physical education teacher from the Bluffton school system, after 30 years, where she had also coached track. She was active with the YWCA, Lima, where she was a swimming instructor and spent summers working with children with cerebral palsy. In the late 80s, she helped implement an innovative music and movement program in the Bluffton schools. With her advice, this program in now being implemented into the Bluffton University education curriculum for the 2005 term. Following her retirement, she became involved in foster parenting with Specialized Alternatives for Family and Youth, a special foster program for hard to place and medically fragile children. In 1996 and 2002, she was awarded SAFY's Foster Parent of the Year. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Bluffton. She had been a member of the Bluffton Education Association. She was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Survivors include two sons, Corey and Ben; four daughters, Martha, Tina, Amy and Sara; a sister, Lynne Sakayama.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Sept. 10 at St. John United Church of Christ, Bluffton. The Rev. Judith Huber will officiate.

Friends may call following services Sept. 10 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health & Hospice or Mennonite Memorial Home.
