Columbus Grove

WILLIAM H. KOON, 77, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Columbus Grove, died at 12:23 a.m. Oct. 9, 2006, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

He was born Sept. 17, 1929, in Seattle to George Howard and Erma Jane Arnold Koon, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 7, 1948, he married Vivian Alice Brown, who survives.

Mr. Koon retired in the early 1980s as a farmer and had been co-founder of Lord's Men's Wear, which operated in Lima in the 1950s and 1960s. Following his retirement, he remained involved in Lord's Enterprises, Columbus Grove, and Republic Mills, Okolona. He was a member of Fort Amanda Lodge 706 Free & Accepted Masons, Chapter 49 Royal Arch Masons and Council 20 Royal & Select Masons, all in Lima. He had served as commander of Shawnee Commandry 14 and was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo.

Survivors also include a son, William H. (Elizabeth) Koon II of Columbus Grove; a granddaughter, Andrea Leigh (Adam) Gillespie; two great-grandsons, Adam Kade Gillespie and Silas Robert Gillespie; a grandson by marriage, William S. Winebrenner; and Ronald L. Winfield, whom he considered a second son.

A Knights Templar service will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Lima Masonic Center.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the center.
