JOHN D. WILLIAMS, 63, died at 11:23 a.m. Nov. 8, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born May 13, 1942, in Lima to James Robert and M. Louise Frederick Williams. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Lafayette. His special partner in life of 21 years, Linda L. Robinson, survives.

Mr. Williams retired as a lieutenant from the detective unit of the Allen County Sheriff's Office, after 25 years. He was a life member of Lafayette Congregational Christian Church. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police, the Buckeye Sheriff's Association, the National Rifle Association, the Ohio Gun Collectors Association, the Republican National Committee and the Hog Creek Gun Club. He was a graduate of Lafayette-Jackson High School and attended Northwest Business School. He was an avid gardener, loved the outdoors and was an avid scholar of the Civil War. He was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR.

Survivors also include two nephews, Jim (Kim) Hawk and Jim (Melinda) Williams; a great-nephew, Kyle James Williams; a very special niece, Sarah (Brandon) Wireman; three great-nieces, Alexa and Abby Hawk and Hannah Williams; a brother, James R. (Marilyn) Williams of Lafayette; two sisters, Dianne L. (David) Slosser of Port Clinton and Gerri K. (Phil) Hawk of Lafayette; his maternal grandmother, Violet Frederick; his very special friends, Larry Van Horn, B.J. Miller and Eldon Orick; the group at Health Chek in Ada; and his cat, Max.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Lafayette Congregational Christian Church. Pastor Brian Jenkins will officiate. Burial will be in Lafayette Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Chapel, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Historical Society or the Badertscher-Yoakam Scholarship & Education Fund in Lafayette.
