RICHARD R. "DICK" DAVIS, 78, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday at Vancrest Health Care Center.
He was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Latty to Vernie and Florence M. Hill Davis, who preceded him in death. His longtime companion, Lillian Mae Samples, survives in Van Wert.
Mr. Davis owned and operated The Century Bar in Van Wert from 1959-78 and worked at Aeroquip Corp. in Van Wert for 10 years. He also owned and trained standardbred race horses and was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association. He loved attending area county fairs.
Other survivors include a son, Jeffery (Shawnne) Davis, of Van Wert; two daughters, Kathy (Brian) Clark, of Blissfield, Mich., and Sue (Barry) McDowell, of Van Wert; and six grandchildren, Amanda Clark, Matthew Clark, Codi Webster, Garrett McDowell, Bailey Hall and Allie Hall.
He also was preceded in death a brother, Donald "Tink" Davis; and a sister, Floris Marker.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rev. Greg Leigh will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
