MARY JO SKORUPSKI, 70, died at 2:25 p.m. Feb. 4, 2007, at St. Rita's Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Toledo to Adrian Leo and Glenna Rosetta Mumea Basinger, who preceded her in death. On April 12, 1958, she married John J. Skorupski, who died May 17, 1998.

Mrs. Skorupski retired in 1990 as a teacher. She was an elementary teacher at St. John's School, Loraine, Riverdale School and St. Rose School, Lima. After becoming certified in developmental handicap education, she taught learning-disabled and special-needs pupils at Lima City Schools, before retiring because of health reasons. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Spencerville. She was a 1954 graduate of Cory-Rawson High School and a 1958 graduate of Ohio Northern University, Ada, where she received her bachelor's degree in music education and English. She enjoyed several crafts.

Survivors include four sons, James Joseph (Inga) Skorupski and Lawrence Lee "Larry" Skorupski, both of Spencerville, John Andrew (Gina) Skorupski, of Sidney, and Jerome Leonard "Jerry" (Sue) Skorupski, of Orient; 10 grandchildren, Chari Cook, Craig (Becca) Cook, Dave (Nichol) Cook, Michelle (Scott) Cramer, J.J. Skorupski, Michael Wampler, Matthew Skorupski, Madison Skorupski, Michael Skorupski and Nicholas Skorupski; five great-grandchildren, Devon, Kayla, Taylor, Eryn and Dylan Cook; and a brother-in-law, James R. Fawver, of Findlay.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Adrian Basinger, who died on Okinawa in 1945 during World War II; and a sister, Alice E. Fawver.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Spencerville. Father John Fleck will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m.
