The Ohio State Highway Patrol believes alcohol is to blame for a single-car crash that killed a Toledo man in the northeastern corner of Van Wert County early Sunday morning.
Carlos Negrin II, 41, drove a 2006 Chrysler 300 off the right side of Converse Roselm Road and hit a sign before crashing into a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, Gilbert Gomez, 41, of Toledo, was taken by helicopter to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was in stable condition, the patrol said.
The patrol said Negrin was not wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
