Elmer G. McDaniel, 94, died at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 19, 2010, at Bluffton Hospital, Bluffton.
He was born Feb. 22, 1916, in McComb to Virgil and Blanche Ewing McDaniel, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 6, 1938, he married Evelyn L. Inbody, who died April 28, 2004.
Mr. McDaniel owned and operated a barbershop in Gilboa for 60 years, along with his wife, who was a beautician. He had also been a farmer and a bus driver for Pandora-Gilboa schools for 30 years. He was a graduate of Crawfis College. He was a member of Gilboa United Methodist Church, where he held several offices. He had been active in community affairs, always showing a love for his community and his family. He was an avid sports fan, especially of The Ohio State University Buckeyes. He and his wife and traveled in the 48 contiguous states as well as in Alaska, Canada and Mexico. He had lived at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora, for the last eight months.
Survivors include two sons, John (Jenny) McDaniel, of Ottawa, and Rob (Carolyn) McDaniel, of Pandora; two granddaughters, Angie (Chris) Renner, of Cairo, and Alison (Todd) Kirkton, of Goshen, Ind.; and seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Caitlyn, Madelyn and Lexie Renner, and Haley, Sophia and Lizzy Kirkton.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gilboa United Methodist Church. The Rev. Amy Haines will officiate. Burial will be in Harman Cemetery, Celina.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hartley Funeral Home, McComb, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
