Jimmie Joiner, 72, died at 5:10 p.m. Dec. 8, 2010, at Toledo Hospital.
He was born Oct, 3, 1938, in Columbus, Ga., to John and Josephine Joiner, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Joiner retired in 1990 from Teledyne Steel after many years of service. He accepted Christ at an early age and served as a Sunday school teacher, president of BTU and Marvel Champion for the city of Lima. He was in the upper third of his class in school and graduated from Lima Senior High School. He won the state Soap Box Derby in Akron. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He has been a shoeshine lad and delivered papers in the city of Lima. He loved to work and earn his own way.
Survivors include two sisters, Mae Francis Joiner, of Lima, and Ela Mae Joiner, of Cleveland; a loving companion, Joan Canty, of Lima; two brothers-in-law, Pastor David Watts, of Cleveland, and Lewis Humphries, of Lima; a godsister, Wanda Wilson, of Lima; a godson, Josh Wilson, of Lima; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Joiner Gray, Joanne Joiner Humphries and Johnnie Mae Joiner Watts; and two brothers, John W. Joiner Jr., and Elton Joiner.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Eleventh Street Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel, where family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m.
