John Eugene Wright Sr., 76, died at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 15, 2010, at his residence.
He was born July 7, 1934, in Troy to Delbert and Sarah Jane Owens Wright, who preceded him in death. On June 24, 1960, he married Patricia Ann Lester, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Wright retired from the Army and as a clerk from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and was on the deacon board. He had been president of the Allen County Muscular Dystrophy Association, the NAACP and the Bradfield Lions Club. He had served as a mediator for the Shawnee school board. He loved his family and was proud of them all. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1911, where he had been the canteen manager.
Survivors also include six sons, John E. (Tuneka) Wright Jr., of Findlay, Stephen L. (Renetta) Wright and Kevin D. (Tiffany) Wright, both of Lima, Timothy W. (Tammie) Wright, of Dayton, Michael D. (Debra) Wright, of Columbus, and Marc E. (Hope) Wright, of Lima; a daughter, Denise L. (Johnny) Evans, of Troy; 27 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert W. (Cheryl) Johnson, of Dayton; and three sisters, Laura J. (Nicholas) Collins, of Atlanta, Carol A. (John) Burden, of Glendale, Ariz., and Elizabeth M. (Larry) Burden, of Dayton.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Milton Wright and Stephen and David Johnson.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Fayne G. Wise will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
