Luke J. Dabbelt

Luke J. Dabbelt, 85, died at 2:30 a.m. Aug. 9, 2010, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Chickasaw to Julius and Mary Schwieterman Dabbelt, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 20, 1947, he married H. Marjory Ellis, who survives in Wapakoneta.

Mr. Dabbelt retired in 1987 as a sales manager from Western & Southern Life Insurance Co., after 30 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1272 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8445, both in Wapakoneta. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater with the K-9 Corps. He was a graduate of Coldwater High School. He was a charter member of the Grand Lake Beagle Club. He enjoyed golfing and raising dogs.

Survivors also include seven children, David (Katie) Dabbelt, of West Chester, John (Jan) Dabbelt, of Fort Wayne, Ind., Daniel (Mary Jane) Dabbelt, of Weston, Mass., William (Julie) Dabbelt, of Columbus, Mark (Lisa) Dabbelt, of Westerville, Anne (Walt) Turner, of Wapakoneta, and Michael (Kristin) Dabbelt, of Acworth, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Dabbelt, of New Bremen, and Elaine Ellis, of Carmel, Ind.; and a brother-in-law, Jim (Delma) Ellis, of Kissimmee, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Dabbelt; five siblings, Norbert, Ruth Rose, Bernice Wilker, and Martin and Thomas Dabbelt.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. Father Matthew Lee will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 9445.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta.
