Norman Joseph Wittler

Norman Joseph Wittler, 88, died at 8:15 a.m. Feb. 24, 2010, at VanCrest Health Care Center, Delphos.

He was born June 25, 1921, in Fort Jennings to John and Emma Ellerbrock Wittler, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 26, 1963, he married Norma Nomina, who survives in Delphos.

Mr. Wittler was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1362, Delphos. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors also include a son, Joe (Louise) Wittler, of Delphos; a daughter, Mary Ann (Greg) George, of Lima; a sister, Eilleen Cavelage, of Delphos; five brothers, Kenny (Carol) Wittler, of Ottoville, Eugene (Normie) Wittler, of Defiance, Leroy (Jane) Wittler, of Fort Jennings, and Robert (Joyce) Wittler and John (Mary Lou) Wittler, both of Delphos; and three grandchildren, Madison and Parker George and Jason Wittler.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Leander and Harold Wittler; and a sister, Rita Will.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. Father Melvin Verhoff will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Cemetery.
