Volleyball season is beginning to get interesting, with the conference battles heating up each Tuesday and Thursday.
On Tuesday, Delphos Jefferson won its first Northwest Conference match by beating Ada 3-1. Bridget Culp was impressive, she smacked 17 kills in the match. Teammates Melissa Shobe and Kristin Klausing each had seven kills on the night. Klausing also came up with nine assists and four digs, while Morgan Fischbach served up five aces for the Wildcats.
Also in the NWC, Jessica Berger and Taylor Springer smacked 12 kills apiece to help Crestview beat LCC 3-1 and Lincolnview scored an upset with a 3-0 win over Columbus Grove.
In the Putnam County League, Kalida beat Continental 3-0 as Brandi Merschman delivered a school record 10 aces. Lima Senior won its first Greater Buckeye Conference match by beating Marion Harding 3-1.
On the boys soccer pitch, Shawnee blasted Elida 6-1 with Ryan Magee scoring twice for the Indians. And Temple Christian freshman Taylor Zwiebel came back from a broken hip to score two goals and help his team beat Ada 9-0.
In boys golf, Waynesfield-Goshen continued its stellar season with a 158-199 Northwest Central Conference win over Ridgemont. Sheldon Shobe shot a 37 for the Tigers, who are 8-0.
