Robert J. Ekstrom, 77, died at 5:10 a.m. March 17, 2010, at Jacksonville McGraw Hospice, Jacksonville, Fla.
He was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Lima, to Carl L. and Jennie V. Thomas Ekstrom, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 10, 1955, he married Marilyn K. Perkins, who survives in Lima.
Mr. Ekstrom retired from the Lima U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Bath schools. He was a member of Southside Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon for several years and was a member of the Faithful Followers Sunday school class. He was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a past member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54. He was an avid golfer and was a Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Most of all, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
Survivors also include three daughters, Karen (Doug) Dauer, of Bowling Green, Cathy Ekstrom, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Janice (Ron) Stahl, of Gahanna; seven grandchildren, Jason (Dana) Tierney, Craig, Keith and Kristen Oard, Logan Dauer, and Holly and Lindsey Stahl; a stepgrandchild, Sandy (Michael) Cline; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Ethan Tran and Jared, Nathan and Brandon Cline; an aunt, Mary Newland, of Lima; and a son-in-law, Michael Oard, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda A. Oard.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Southside Christian Church. The Revs. Douglas Adams and Wanda Werking will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chiles-Laman Funeral Homes, Eastside Chapel, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
