ST MARYS — A third man was arrested Monday in connection with a 1981 murder in which authorities already have obtained conviction of two others.
Brian S. Guggenbiller, 51, of Lima, was charged with aggravated murder in the 1981 death of Marcellus Reineke. His arraignment to enter a plea was not scheduled as of Monday afternoon.
Guggenbiller was in the Auglaize County jail Monday. He was arrested at his Lima home.
Reineke was murdered Oct. 13, 1981, during a robbery. He was beaten and stabbed to death in his St. Marys apartment at 229 S. West St. Relatives found his body a few days later.
Tracy Mabry, 51, was sentenced in February to seven to 25 years in prison on involuntary manslaughter. He agreed to cooperate with the prosecution against Guggenbiller.
Another man, Paul Hoover, 53, was sentenced to seven to 25 years in prison on the charge of involuntary manslaughter.
The men believed Reineke had $50,000 in cash in a briefcase in his apartment. They planned to kill Reineke and take the money. Mabry was the getaway driver, a prosecutor said.
The killers only got $80, a watch and some old coins, a prosecutor said.
Reineke was stabbed or slashed 39 times and was beaten.
