Letter: Dogs, like people, get lonely if left alone

The Lima News printed two pictures of dogs during the week of Oct. 10. One showed a dog with his back to the camera on a short chain attached to a tree. He did have a bucket of water and shade from the tree. The other picture showed a dog standing on the front porch watching his neighborhood with a smile on his face.

Dogs are social animals, and their sole purpose in life is to please humans. They need loving interaction with people to be healthy. Chained and penned dogs suffer intense boredom, anxiety and even neuroses and are 2.8 times more likely to bite.
