Lima Senior improves to 5-2 in baseball

LIMA — Lima Senior improved to 5-2 on the season with a 8-6 baseball victory against Ada on Wednesday.

Taylor Mericle had three hits, including a double, and an RBI for the host Spartans. Aaron Everhart had three hits, including a double, a stolen base and three RBI for the Bulldogs (5-3).

Ottoville 5, Bluffton 4

OTTOVILLE — Ottoville took the lead for good with a two-run sixth inning. Joe Vanoss had two hits and two RBI for Ottoville. Teammate Brandon Boecker also had two hits. Austin Bricker and Jason Bracy each had a hit and an RBI for Bluffton.

Crestview 15, Bath 8

CONVOY — Winning pitcher Zach Simerman also homered. Teammates Jordan Roop and Justin Overmeyer each doubled as did Bath’s Drew Braun. Jared Hoersten had a triple and Alex Sealts had a double for Fort Jennings.

SIDNEY — LCC fell to 1-5 on the season.

Delphos St. John’s 14,

Fort Jennings 10

DELPHOS — Austin Heiing tripled and doubled and Brandon Slate and Seth Linder each doubled for Delphos St. John’s.

Thobe’s choice

Coldwater’s Derek Thobe of Coldwater will be playing baseball for Division II Ohio Dominican.

1990 team recalled

The 1990 Coldwater state baseball championship team will be honored before the Cavaliers’ 1 p.m. April 25 home game against Badin.

Bath 6, Bluffton 2

BATH TOWNSHIP — Winning pitcher Julia Miller (4-1) also doubled. The Wildkittens’ Cassie Best had a triple. Sidney Joseph had a triple and Sami Fruchey had a double for Bluffton.

Shawnee 7, Allen East 1

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Winning pitcher Alyssa Windau allowed one run and three hits in seven-innings work. Teammates Kiersten Courtney and Maggie Saine each doubled.

Elida 20, Ottoville 4

ELIDA — Jenna Halpern had three hits and three RBI, Katelynn Sumption and Taylor Thompson each had two hits and three RBI, Lydia Burnett had two hits, including a home run, and one RBI, Michaela Black had two hits and two RBI and Sabrina Kline had two hits for Elida. Alena Horstman had three hits and an RBI for Ottoville.

Ada 16, Ridgemont 1

RIDGEWAY — Winning pitcher Teyah Sautter (2-1) allowed no earned runs, two hits and no walks while striking out five and had a hit and three RBIs. The Bulldogs’ Olivia Alexander had two hits and two RBI.

Coldwater games

The Coldwater softball home doubleheader against St. Marys will start at 1 p.m. Saturday. The home game against Bluffton will be at 5 p.m. April 24 and the doubleheader against Fort Recovery will begin at noon May 2.


The Paulding at Columbus Grove baseball and softball games will be played May 5.

As a result, Paulding’s baseball game at Hicksville and softball game at Wayne Trace scheduled for that date have been canceled.

Zell picks school

Lima Senior volleyball setter Mara Zell will be signing a letter of intent to play for NAIA member Indiana Tech at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Lima Senior teachers’ lounge. Zell was a 2014 District 8 second team and Three Rivers Conference honorable mention selection and a 2013 TRAC second team member. She was a varsity letter winner all four years of high school.



ONU 6, Thomas More 2

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - No. 23 ranked Ohio Northern baseball earned a 6-2 victory at #25 Thomas More (Ky.) Wednesday evening.

The No. 23 ranked Polar Bears improve to 22-6 on the year by defeating the No. 25 ranked Saints, who fell to 19-7.

Northern was led by freshman Brandon Kasberg who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Men’s tennis

Baldwin Wallace 8, ONU 1

BEREA — The doubles team of sophomores Alex Starr and Alex Genbauffe got the only victory (8-5) for Ohio Northern on Wednesday evening at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.

The Polar Bears fell to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Baldwin Wallace improved to 15-1 and 4-0.
