Oris J. Hemphill

WEST LIBERTY - Oris J. Hemphill, 85, of West Liberty, formerly of Huntsville, died May 1, 2010, at his residence.

He was born May 13, 1924, to John Franklin and Helen Angeline Johnson Hemphill, who preceded him in death. On May 27, 1944, he married Marion Turner, who survives in West Liberty.

Mr. Hemphill was a member of the Huntsville Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and trustee. He was a 1943 graduate of Belle Center High School and was a lifelong farmer and teller of epic tales.

Survivors include three children, Dorothy (Barry) Allen, of Lafayette, Susan (Mike) Clum, of Elida, and Richard (Carol) Hemphill, of West Liberty; a son-in-law, Mike (Deb) Roberts, of West Liberty; two brothers, Paul F. (Betty) Hemphill, of Bellefontaine and John C. Hemphill of Russells Point; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jean Roberts, on April 17, 1978.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine. Pastors Karen Cassedy, Cheryl Siegenthaler and Daniel McCarthy will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
