Letter: Special care needed when working with dogs

Dogs are always regarded as man’s best friend. But, when one isn’t careful, dogs can become dangerous foes. While dogs can be wonderful pets, it’s also important to understand how to be safe around them, and how to keep others safe.

For example, when walking your dog, always keep it on a leash. Also, when you let your dog out to use the bathroom, make sure that your yard has a fence, to keep your dog on your property. And never let your dog roam neighborhoods alone and off the leash, particularly if the dog is known to be aggressive towards people.

If you have children, make sure that your child understands that they are never supposed to approach a strange dog without adult supervision, and only if you’re certain that the dog is safe. And, when choosing a dog as a family pet, make sure that you choose a breed that isn’t known for aggression. By using all these safety measures, we can ensure that dogs will always be man’s best friend.
