Roundup: Bluffton turns away Continental in boys basketball

BLUFFTON — Bluffton won its matchup over Continental 68-40 on the opening night of the revamped McDonald’s Bluffton Holiday boys basketball Tournament Tuesday at Bluffton.

With Cory-Rawson withdrawing from the Holiday Tournament (see below note), Bluffton’s junior varsity and varsity will host Arlington at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bluffton.

Continental will not play in the tournament Wednesday.

Bluffton is 3-2. Continental is 3-6.

Trenton Donley paced Bluffton with 15 points and four 3-pointers.

Bluffton’s Kyler Kinn added 14. Trey Boblitt had 12, while Nate Schaadt scored 11.

Bluffton led 39-30 at the half.

Mitchell Coleman led Continental with 19 points and five 3-pointers. Andrew Hoeffel had eight points.

The Cory-Rawson boys basketball program will be shut down through Jan. 8.

Lima Senior 93 Springfield 72

SPRINGFIELD – Lima Senior took the trek to Springfield and came back with a convincing non-league victory over Springfield.

Lima Senior is 6-1.

Lincolnview 61, Ottoville 58

OTTOVILLE – Lincolnview handed Ottoville its second loss of the year at Ottoville.

Lincolnview is 5-1. Ottoville is 6-2.

Leipsic 74, Vanlue 51

LEIPSIC – Leipsic posted a Blanchard Valley Conference win over Vanlue at Leipsic.

Leipsic is 7-1, 4-1 in the BVC. Vanlue is 0-4, 0-2 in the BVC.

Mason Brandt had 21 points and five rebounds for the Vikings. He was 4 of 10 on 3-pointers.

Trey Schroeder scored 13 with three 3-pointers. Jaden Siefker scored 10. Lorenzo Walther had six points and six rebounds.

Crestview 38, Kalida 36

CONVOY – Crestview handed Kalida its first loss in a non-league game in Convoy.

Crestview is 6-2. Kalida is 9-1.

St. Marys 46, Spencerville 44

ST. MARYS – St. Marys edged Spencerville at St. Marys.

St. Marys is 6-2. Spencerville is 2-7.

Grube Holiday Classic Consolation

Paulding 42, Tinora 28

DEFIANCE – Paulding won the consolation game over Tinora in the Grube Holiday Classic at Defiance High School.

Paulding is 6-4. Tinora is 1-2.

Christian Bauer had 15 points for Paulding. Blake McGarvey scored 11.

Tinora won the boards, 24-21.

Ridgemont 76, Riverside 56

RIDGEWAY – Ridgemont won a Northwest Central Conference game over Riverside at Ridgemont.

Ridgemont is 6-2, 2-1 in the NWCC. Riverside is 1-5, 0-2 in the NWCC.

Wapakoneta 54, Allen East 52

WAPAKONETA – Wapakoneta nipped Allen East at Wapakoneta in a non-league game.

The Redskins are 7-2. Allen East is 5-2.

New Knoxville 45, Houston 34

NEW KNOXVILLE – New Knoxville knocked off Houston at New Knoxville.

New Knoxville is 3-6.

Upper Scioto Valley 55, Parkway 50

MCGUFFEY – Upper Scioto Valley came away with a non-league win over Parkway at USV.

USV is 3-3. Parkway is 2-4.

Connor Sanders had 23 points for USV. Drew Stephens scored 11. Tristan Fisher had 10.

Parkway’s Dylan Hughes led all scorers with 30 points, including five 3-pointers. Caden Slusher scored nine.

Minster 75, Pandora-Gilboa 42

MINSTER – Minster’s Bryan Falk scored 17 points in a victory over Pandora-Gilboa at Minster.

Minster is 5-2. P-G is 3-4.

Falk hit 5 of 7 on 3-pointers.

Minster’s Johnny Nixon had 12 points and six rebounds. Josh Niekamp scored 10 with three 3-pointers.

Minster’s Brady Hoelscher had seven points, five rebounds and five steals.

P-G was led by Dillon Krohn’s 12 points. Eli Huffman scored seven.

Ontario 69, Kenton 46

KENTON – Ontario pulled away from Kenton at Kenton.

Kenton is 0-7.


Lima Holiday Invitational

LIMA – Ottawa-Glandorf’s girls and Wapakoneta’s boys won the Lima Holiday Swimming Invitational Tuesday at the Lima Family YMCA.

O-G won the girls title with 359 points. Coldwater was second with 272, while Fort Recovery was third at 252. Wapakoneta was fourth with 225. New Bremen took fifth with 199.

Rounding out the top 10 were the following: 6. Shawnee (131); 7. Ada (114.50); 8. Lima Senior (88); 9. Minster (82.50); and 10. Bluffton (72).

Wapak won the boy title with 464. Shawnee was second at 307. O-G was third with 289. Minster was fourth with 194, while Kenton took fifth with 174.

Rounding out the top 10 were the following: 6. Bluffton (150); 7. Botkins (99); 8. New Bremen (71); 9. Fort Recovery (59); and 10. Elida (56).

Combining the boys and girls results, Wapak took first with 689.

O-G was second in combined with 648. Shawnee was third at 438.

Coldwater’s Macy May won the 200 free (2:04.13). She also won the 100 butterfly (1:01.90).

Wapak’s Nate Metzger won the 200 free (1:50.47). He also won the 500 free (5:02.66).

O-G’s Marissa Beckert won the 200 I.M. (2:23.21).

Shawnee’s John Briggs won the 200 I.M. (2:04.77). He also won the 100 backstroke (58.54).

Wapak’s Alex Honigford won the 50 free (22.36). He also won the 100 free (49.14).

Wapak’s Gavin Sutton won the 100 butterfly (54.60).

Lima Senior’s Grace Beck won the 100 free (58:02).

New Bremen’s Annie Jiang won the 500 free.

Ada’s Carlie Oldfield won the 100 backstroke (1:08.30).

Bluffton’s Riley Verb won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.30).

Girls basketball

Ottawa-Glandorf 55, Columbus Grove 51

COLUMBUS GROVE – Ottawa-Glandorf pushed its record to 10-0 with a victory over Columbus Grove at Grove.

Columbus Grove is 5-5.

Kelsey Erford paced the Titans with 21 points with two 3-pointers.

Chloee Glenn had 18 points and Erin Kaufman scored 11.

Kory Halker paced the Bulldogs with 12 points. Sage Clement had 10.

Kenzie King scored eight for Grove. Erin Downing had five points, six rebounds and four assists.

O-G outrbounded Grove, 28-18. Grove made 20 turnovers, while O-G had 13.

Grove led 27-23 at the half. The Titans took a 38-36 lead after three quarters.

Elida 52, Lima Senior 36

ELIDA – The Elida Vicki Mauk Holiday Tournament was canceled on Tuesday, but Lima Senior and Elida agreed to play.

Elida posted a victory over Lima Senior at the Elida Fieldhouse.

Elida is 2-2.

Nakiya Sigman had 15 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Spartans.

Lima Senior’s Tillie Nelson had nine points and seven rebounds. Samya Wright had night points. Tiana Spivey had nine rebounds.

St. Marys 44 Lima Central Catholic 19

LIMA – St. Marys ran past Lima Central Catholic at Herr Gymnasium.

St. Marys led 13-7 after the first quarter and 23-9 at the half.

St. Mary is 7-2. LCC is 5-5.

Kendall Dieringer paced the Roughriders with 12 points.

Olivia Stolly had 11 points for LCC.

Shawnee 70, Defiance 34

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP – Shawnee’s Zoe Best tossed in 30 points to power the Indians over Defiance.

Shawnee is 6-2, 1-1 in the Western Buckeye League. Defiance is 1-8, 0-3 in the WBL.

Best also had 10 rebounds.

Shawnee’s Grace Freiberger had 23 points and four steals. Ania Pearson had seven points and 11 rebounds.

Delphos Jefferson 44, Van Wert 37

VAN WERT – Delphos Jefferson knocked off Van Wert at Van Wert.

Delphos Jefferson is 9-2. Van Wert is 4-5.

Alycia Lindeman led Jefferson with 17 pints. Alyvia Lindeman and Josie McGue both scored nine.

Sofia Houg had 16 points for Van Wert. Kyra Welch scored 10.

Wapakoneta 39, Allen East 28

HARROD – Wapakoneta’s Casey Minnig tossed in 20 points to help the Redskins post a win over Allen East at Allen East.

Wapak is 3-5. Allen East is 3-6.

Nikane Ambos had six points for Wapak.

Brooke Hesler had 13 points for the Mustangs.

Wapak led 26-18 at the half.

New Bremen 61, Lehman Catholic 22

SIDNEY – New Bremen went out to a quick start and steamrolled Sidney Lehman Catholic.

New Bremen led 13-4 after the first quarter and 32-9 at the half.

New Bremen is 3-4.

Elli Roetgerman paced New Bremen with 22 points. She was 10 of 10 at the foul line.

Madison Cordonnier had 14 points.

Ovisco Classic

Marion Local 55, Coldwater 31

CELINA – Marion Local won the Ovisco Classic at Celina with a victory over Coldwater.

Marion Local is 7-2. Coldwater is 2-7.

St. Henry 37, Celina 35

CELINA – St. Henry got by Celina in the consolation game of the Ovisco Classic at Celina.

St. Henry is 1-6. Celina is 0-6.


Parkway Invitational

ROCKFORD — Celina (401 points) won the team title followed by Spencerville (279), Coldwater (265), Parkway (231), Lincolnview (130), Delphos St. John’s (123.5), Delphos Jefferson (121), Crestview (101) and Lehman Catholic (35). Spencerville’s Brandon Dues, who recorded a pin in all his matches in winning the title at 285 pounds, was named the invitational’s most valuable wrestler.

Mason Vonderwell (160) and Chase Martin (170) from Delphos St. John’s, Celina’s Landin Wallace (106 pounds), Brycen Miracle (120), Landon Engle (132) and Jaden King (152), Spencerville’s Nyah Hodge Miller (113), Coldwater’s Nick Kline (126), Grant Heuing (145), Shane Ontrop (182) and Caleb Stammen (195), Delphos Jefferson’s Anthony Bodine (138), and Parkway’s Hayden Ridenour (220) also won individual titles.
